Experience Strenght and Hope

We like to share our “experience, strength and hope” according to the Grapevine article.

This begs the question:

“Tom. . . . .” Tom was the grapevine editor who wrote it. . . . “Tom! . . . could you possibly be more vague?”

What did the AA founders say about the message we share and HOW to share it? Didn’t they say something about, “What WE were like, What happened and what WE are like now”?

My good friend Cliff B, from Dallas Texas, Primary Purpose Group has written an excellent essay on this subject.

As far I am concerned, it is “Required reading” for the men I sponsor. Please read it and see how it compares with what you THINK you know.

At some point you may want to do as I did; admit that we had no idea what is meant by ES&H - no one ever even tried to explain it to us because they didn’t know either and since it is never defined in the Program, – the Big Book – have been free to make it mean just about anything that spills out of our heads, over our tongues and through our lips – which pretty much gurantees it has had no solid meaning at all!

Cliff’s essay is less than three pages long and worth a read. (Maybe even worth a send to your PC printer and passed onto a few newcomers too.) So take your ritlin, get a diet coke, sit down and learn something about what you already THOUGHT you knew — and didn’t

Here’s the essay: CLIFF’S ESSAY on ES&K

Peace,

Danny S
